Local Job Opening

Just sharing the news. Please do not contact us for more information. From Zach Guidry:

Gerald Migues with http://www.etdevelopers.com/ here in Lafayette is looking to replace one of his lead web developers. I have worked with Gerald in the past - he is great to work with. He and his team have developed a CMS that is used to create websites and ecommerce sites. I don't know the specifics of the job, but I would imagine it would entail developing the CMS or developing the graphic templates to work with the CMS (or both). If you are interested, drop him a line through the website.

A BarCamp? In Lafayette??

Via the Lafayette Pro Fiber Blog comes news of a BarCamp in support of the new fiber network we will soon (hopefully!) all have access to. Information on the BarCamp may be found here:

How to Find a Good Web Designer

Win this book!

Just because the Acadiana Adobe User Group is taking its summer vacation and not meeting in August, doesn't mean we quit giving things away!

We have in hand a fantastic new book from Focal Press, Flash + After Effects by Chris Jackson.

This is a beautifully printed book crammed with full-color illustrations and detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to use Flash and After Effects to enliven animations for video and the web. Detailed Action Script is provided, and a rich assortment of screen shots lets you see exactly what you are looking for. You'll learn how to add motion graphics and visual effects, fuse 3D depth into 2D animation and prepare Flash animation for broadcast.

Our copy of this book will be given away free! Here's the way it works: the book will be reserved for the first person to email flashbook [at] jamesedmunds [dot] com with "Book" in the subject line and your name in the body. The winner can claim it at the next meeting of the Acadiana Adobe User Group on Sept. 23, 2008. Should that winner not be present at the meeting, the book will be raffled amongst those in attendance.

UPDATE: We do have a winner and look forward to seeing her at the meeting on Sept. 23!

Our meeting on Sept. 23, 2008 will be held at 6 pm at Graham Group Interactive, 2014 West Pinhook Road, Suite 210, Lafayette, LA. On that evening, Ray Camden and James Edmunds will present on YouTube and video APIs, including callback routines. Also, Karen Willingham will give us a brief look at a new search engine. And, your mere presence gets you chances to win an Adobe CS3 suite in our December drawing, and there are giveaways at every gathering. Light refreshments will be served.

So, flood that mailbox and hope you're first for this terrific book, and we'll see you in September!

More Beta

The look at new Adobe product betas will continue at the next meeting of the Acadiana Adobe User Group, Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 6-8 pm, at Graham Group Interactive, 2014 West Pinhook Road, Suite 210, Lafayette, LA.

Bryan Theriot will review Soundbooth, and James Edmunds will give us a peek at some demos with the new Flash Player 10.

We'll also get a brief report from Ray Camden, who has just attended CFUNITED and will have insights into what's coming for ColdFusion development.

We will also hear details of two new discount programs offered to our members, one for training materials and one for books.

Plus, remember that just for attending the meeting you are entered in a raffle whereby you could win a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design or Web Premium in a drawing this December, just for attending our meetings (and, you can enhance your chances by being a presenter)! To set the mood, we are having a drawing every meeting for fun prizes, Adobe gear, and/or occasional books.

Light refreshments will be served.
