The only real "business" of the evening will be a preview of a few upcoming meeting topics that will start off 2009; the balance of the evening will be simply a chance to socialize and visit with your colleagues.

Oh, and there will be a raffle! The tickets we have been collecting for the last six months will be used to raffle off an Adobe CS4 suite! And there will be other giveaways, as well... the holidays are here and we promise that no one will leave without at least something!

Show and Tell! Nov. meeting moves to Tuesday, Nov. 11

Due to an unfortunate personal emergency, the guest speaker scheduled for a Nov. 3 appearance with the Acadiana Adobe User Group was forced to cancel at the last minute.

The meeting has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11, 6-8 pm, at Graham Group Interactive, 2014 West Pinhook Road, Suite 210, Lafayette, LA.

This will be a Show and Tell evening, when we take a sneak peek at various projects recently completed or underway, to see what some of our members have been up to, what they have been utilizing in the projects, how they have been solving problems ... and we even sometimes have problems presented to the group for discussion.

So far, we have Ray Camden showing one or two of his latest projects, and James Edmunds with a pair of easy jQuery implementations used to enliven web site information. We're looking for at least a couple more, and know our members are always up to something interesting, so drop us a line at "admin AT acadiana-aug.org" (you understand what the address really is...) and we'll put you in the spotlight. We'll also have a few moments of "open desktop" for spontaneous peeks at member projects if time allows.

Remember, attending any meeting gets you into the drawing for the Adobe Creative Suite package at our Holiday Social, and there are items raffled at every meeting!

Light refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you there!

O'Reilly Survey

From ORA:

O'Reilly Media is conducting research about in-person, live workshops on software and business topics, and we'd really like your opinion. If you live in the United States and work in the tech industry, please consider taking our 19 question survey to help us understand what you look for in a live training course – what motivates you, what you expect to get out of a workshop, what topics you'd like to see, and so forth.

To participate, please go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=3bFGXzVnXige7WrPdJ0wAQ_3d_3d

To show our appreciation, we'll select 10 people at random to receive a free book of your choice. The drawing will happen on Friday, October 17, so you'll need to complete the survey by that date to enter. The last question on the survey will ask for your e-mail – we'll use that only to contact the randomly selected winners – and your responses will remain anonymous.

Can we talk?

Some time ago I created a listserv for Lafayette for generic technology discussions. That listserv never really took off, and when I switched mail servers, I didn't bother setting it up again.

I was speaking with James and another person this weekend and it seemed like a good time to 'resurrect' the old listserv and set it up via Google. So with that I'm proud to announce the return of the Lafayette Technology group. You can sign up here:

http://groups.google.com/group/lafayettetech

So what's the point of this listserv? All of us in the Acadiana UG are technology buffs. We wouldn't have joined the group if we weren't. Not all of us work in the same areas, but we all like to talk about technology related topics. This listserv can be used to talk about...

  • Should I buy a new Mac or PC? (By the way, the answer is Mac)
  • Should I go with ATT or Cox or wait for Fiber? (Cox for now, but switch to fiber when you can!)
  • How do I get into programming?
  • What editor is best for development?
  • What local Best Buy will have the earlier copy of the new Warcraft expansion?
  • Where can I find a job using C++/.Net?

Basically, anything and everything with regards to technology. This listserv is not just for Acadiana AUG members. Anyone can join. It does make sense to for members to be from Acadiana, but I'm not going to block anyone who is interested in being a member. I plan on reaching out to a few folks at Zydetech and other places to see if we can broaden the membership.

CS4 Announced! Lots of details at Sept. 30 meeting!

As if you couldn't have guessed, it can now be revealed what the "Something Brilliant" is for our Sept. 30 meeting. Adobe has announced the release of its new Creative Suite 4 packages, which will be available soon!

There are tons of fantastic new features in the individual components, and gigantic leaps forward in inter-application workflows.

For our meeting on Sept. 30, we'll have some first peeks at the most exciting new features of Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Flash and Photoshop, including some stunning video demos.

And of course, it wouldn't be an Acadiana Adobe User Group meeting without giveaways! We'll have some cool CS4 launch t-shirts, new stickers, books and other swag to raffle off.

And remember, just for attending, you are entered into a raffle for a CS4 suite package drawing in December!

You won't want to miss this gathering that will put you in the know on the new Adobe releases -- and may even put the new Adobe releases on your own computer!

Meeting time is 6-8 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Graham Group Interactive, 2014 West Pinhook Road, Suite 210, Lafayette, LA. Light refreshments will be served.
